“Fatherhood is a very natural thing; it’s not something that shakes up my life but rather enriches it.”
– Andrea Bocelli
Men should embrace being a father and man up even in the most undesirable of situations. Children are blessings, not burdens. To raise a child is an honor that can transform our lives in powerful ways.
Even when fathers find themselves in situations where their child is unplanned, it is still important for them to man up and be there for that child and its mother. A recent article from family studies took a closer look at men and their responses to the news of an unplanned pregnancy. Surprisingly, they found that men who felt deceived and were angry about the news were in the minority. “Even if they were not planning on having children yet, they responded to their girlfriends’ pregnancies with deep love and determination to turn their lives around. As one young father put it, ‘I wanted to quit partying and doing all the things that I did before. I just basically wanted to grow up. I felt like it was my time to grow up and to be a man and to do what was right.’” http://family-studies.org/how-unmarried-men-respond-to-their-girlfriends-unexpected-pregnancies/
Whether you as parents planned the birth of your child, he or she was planned by God and gifted to you. Mothers will instinctively do what is best for their child, and it is so important that fathers do the same. Parenting isn’t for the faint of heart, and we’ll all receive battle wounds, but if battle wounds and a few broken household items are what we have to endure in order to experience love of epic proportions, then so be it.
